Never-seen-before snaps of the star David Bowie will be displayed in an exhibit at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery from 17th October. Tara Davies reports.
All photos at the exhibit, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll with Me Bowie/MacCormack 1973-76’, were taken by Bowie’s childhood friend Geoff MacCormack.
In 1973, MacCormack was asked by Bowie to join his backing band The Spiders from Mars. After agreeing, MacCormack went on tour with the Ziggy Stardust singer and took his camera with him.
The exhibition will feature 60 photographs MacCormack took of David Bowie whilst he travelled with him around the world.
Geoff MacCormack has called them his ‘holiday snaps’ which makes the exhibition feel a lot more intimate. ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll with Me’ gives a glimpse into a strong friendship as well as what life on the road with Bowie was like.
An unseen short film shot by David Bowie himself will also be shown at the exhibit. It will feature footage from their trip to Moscow in 1973, videos of Bowie and MacCormack on stage together and more.
‘Rock ‘n’ Roll with Me’ opens on 17th October 2020 right the way through to 6th June 2021.
