In 2019, President Joe Biden in a memorable statement said, “I would end U.S. support for the disastrous Saudi-led war in Yemen and order a reassessment of our relationship with Saudi Arabia.” Will Joe Biden be able to help to end the devasting war in Yemen?
As the new president elect of the United States gets down in business, there is hope that the Yemen War might come to an end.
The USA and UK are the biggest arm supplies to Saudi Arabia who have been raging war against Yemen. Without their support, the war will not be able to continue for too long. Peacemakers and humanitarians see new hope that Joe Biden will keep his promise and end the military support to Saudi Arabia as well as force the UK to follow the suit.
Since March 2015, CAAT estimated that the UK sold over 18 billion pounds of weapon to Saudi Arabia. It has been also reported that half of the aircraft that Saudi Arabia used to bomb raids in Yemen were supplied by the UK.
Brice Reidel from Brookings Institution said, “The Royal Saudi Air Force is entirely dependent on American and British support … If either Washington or London halts the flow of logistics, the RSAF will be grounded.”
This change of course will help to end the war and put humongous pressure on the UK ministers to do the same.
