HBO is building an immersive experience on two acres of land for the upcoming South by Southwest Festival. Called the “Live Without Limits Weekend”, it will be set up to promote Westworld’s upcoming second season, which will premiere on 22 April. From 9-11 March, SXSW attendees will be able to see what it’s like to be part of the Westworld town, Sweetwater.
After registering for an appointment at DiscoverWestworld.com, guests will head to downtown Austin’s EastSide Tavern to check in. A luxurious Delos Shuttle will then drive them to a location just outside Austin, where they will visit Sweetwater, the town at the centre of the Westworld theme park from the series.
“Upon arrival, guests will be assigned a black hat or white hat and set loose to explore the park. No guidebook. No orientation,” according to a press release issued by HBO. The entire experience will last approximately two hours.
The park will also feature actors playing “hosts”, who will play out myriad scenarios for attendees to try, while questioning the “hosts” about what’s to come in the show’s second season. There will be other clues within the park for attendees to find but they “can only be discovered by asking the right questions of specific hosts,” it says in the press release.
While HBO has already created Westworld experiences at New York Comic-Con and San Diego Comic-Con, the SXSW experience will happen on a much larger scale.
