When is the Cheapest Time to Book a Flight?

According to research recently commissioned by the online travel agency Opodo.co.uk, the optimum time to purchase return flights from the UK is six weeks before the actual departure date.
The study collected data for prices of return flights from the UK to destinations all around the world from November 2016 until October 2017.
Figures showed that by booking six weeks in advance people could save an average of 48%. It also revealed that prices reached their peak 7 days before the flight – so it is always best not to book too far in advance or too leave it until the last minute.
For long-haul flights from UK, the best time to book is September, and preferably to purchase tickets on Tuesdays.
In the case of domestic flight, you might save a bob or two by booking your trip for October and purchasing the flight tickets on Sundays.
When it comes to short-haul flight, why not try booking your holiday in January and see what happens when you buy your tickets on a Wednesday?
Opodo.co.uk have developed and made public a tool to help passengers book the cheapest flights.
