Greg Sestero and Tommy Wiseau meet while taking acting classes and form a unique friendship. Shortly after they meet, they decide to move to Los Angeles to pursue their dreams of becoming movie stars. When things don’t go as planned they start working on their own film despite their lack of experience, ‘The Room’ – which has been called by many the worst film in history.
‘The Disaster Artist’ is based on the novel of the same name by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell. All of the performances are incredible – but the one that truly stands out is James Franco’s portrayal of Tommy Wiseau.
It can’t have been an easy role to play either – Tommy Wiseau is a “special” character: he has a very distinct accent and he is truly an oddball of the first kind. Franco manages to keep in character throughout the film and others working on the set of ‘The Disaster Artist’ say that he kept in character even when he was conducting his directing tasks.
‘The Disaster Artist’ is one of the funniest comedy films based on a true story in recent years. It will literally have you laughing so hard you will feel like you’re about to slip off the edge of your chair. Your mind will be filled with disbelief over the fact that the production of ‘The Room’ actually took place. This is a truly enjoyable film.
