Author: Clemantine Wamariya & Elizabeth Weil
In 1994, Clemantine and her fifteen-year-old sister fled the Rwanden Massacre. After six years of facing hunger, enduring refugee camps and witnessing inhuman cruelty, but finding unexpected kindness, Clementine and her sister were granted refugee status in the United States, where she embarked on another journey, ultimately graduating from Yale. In her debut, Clemantine demands we look beyond the label of “victim”, in what is a powerful testament to her commitment to constructing a life on her own.
