Popular Sitcom ‘Roseanne’ Canceled over Star’s Racist Tweets

American TV channel ABC canceled Roseanne Barr’s hit sitcom “Roseanne” on Tuesday because of the star’s racist tweet on social media about a member of Obama’s administration named Valerie Jarrett referring as a product of the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes”.
“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show”, said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey.
“There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.” tweeted Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger regarding the cancellation of the show.
Shortly after the show was canceled, the comedian has re-tweeted several comments fiercely backing her behavior, before asking fans to stop defending her.
“I apologies to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans,” she wrote “I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me. My joke was in bad taste”.
Barr has re-tweeted more than a dozen tweets from outraged fans, including ones that are calling on the ABC to stand down other employees who have previously not upheld their standards.
The cancellation stunned Hollywood as the revival of “Roseanne” premiered to huge ratings just three months ago where the production was already underway on a second season.
“What she wrote is antithetical to our core values, both as individuals and as an agency,” said Barr’s talent agency, ICM Partners, in a statement, “Consequently, we have notified her that we will not represent her. Effective immediately, Roseanne Barr is no longer a client”.
