K-pop boyband BTS have broken Taylor Swift’s record for the biggest music video debut and most watched on YouTube over 24 hours .
The video for Taylor Swift’s pop hit song ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ came out this time last year and gained about 43.2 million views in one day of its release, according to Sky News.
But leave it to pop sensation BTS to take down Swift’s reigning YouTube record. Though “Idol” gained more than 45 million views within 24 hours, it’s bright and poppy video, made up of choreographed dance sequences against psychedelic backdrops, has now been viewed more than 90 million times.
YouTube congratulated the band on their official Twitter account and said, “Congratulations to BTS! ‘IDOL’ now holds the record for the biggest music video debut in YouTube history.
The group released their new album ‘Love Yourself: Answer‘ last week (August 25), which features an alternative version of ‘Idol’ with a guest appearance from Nicki Minaj.
They have enjoyed huge success, winning top music awards and becoming the first ever Korean act to top the Billboard 200 albums chart.
The band will have their first official US tour beginning in September, with dates at Los Angeles’ Staples Centre.
