Taking time out from her band Big Thief it was obvious that Adrianne Lenkar as a solo artist would err towards those folk roots. Her minimalist style and sopranic tones make give her music a retro feel that sits well on Abysskiss. The real issue is that the high quality material is padded out by work that just doesn’t come close to matching it. So this is very much a peaks and troughs album where one minute you’re reminded of Joni Mitchell and then the next you’re reaching for the skip button. The pick of the bunch would have made for a superb EP but as an album this collection of songs must rate as average.
