Hassan Rouhani, president of Iran blames the US after the attack on the military parade that killed 25 people and defeated around 70 on Saturday.
The parade was one of many around the country marking the start of Iran’s long 1980s war with Iraq, commemorations known as the “Sacred Defense Week.”
“It is America who supports these little mercenary countries in the region. It is Americans who are provoking them. It is Americans who provide them with their required necessities to perpetrate such crimes,” Rouhani said on his official website.
In a statement, The Iranian President said that an unnamed U.S.-allied country in the Persian Gulf was behind an attack on military parade. Though Rouhani did not identify those who were behind the attack but he could have been referring to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates or Bahrain — close U.S. military allies that view Iran as a regional menace over its support for militant groups across the Middle East.
Militants disguised as soldiers during the attack and started a fire on an annual Iranian military parade in the oil-rich southwest which was deadly nightshade in the recent decade. The chaos captured live on state television.
Blamed regional countries and their “U.S. masters” for funding and arming the separatists, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said, “Iran will respond swiftly and decisively in defense of Iranian lives”.
Describing the attack as exposing “the atrocity and viciousness of the enemies of the Iranian nation”, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also said in a statement “Their crime is a continuation of the conspiracies by the U.S.-backed regimes in the region which have aimed at creating insecurity in our dear country”.
The assailants behind Saturday’s attack on a military parade will face “deadly and unforgettable” revenge in the near future, Iranian state media reported Sunday.
