Eight Killed during Israeli operation in Gaza

Israeli forces killed seven Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Sunday in air strikes and an undercover raid that Hamas said targeted one of its commanders and an Israeli soldier was also killed and another wounded, the Israeli military said, after a firefight erupted.
At least a dozen rockets were launched from the Hamas-controlled enclave overnight in apparent response to the gunfight and the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, cut short a visit to Paris, where he had been gathering with world leaders for a first world war commemoration.
Hamas stated the incident began when assailants in a passing car opened fire on a group of its armed men, killing one of its commanders. Its fighters had given chase as the vehicle sped away, it said.
The clash comes after months of protests along the Gaza-Israel separation fence, during which more than 200 Palestinians have been killed and 20,000 wounded. The most recent casualty raised the Israeli death toll since the beginning of the Great March of Return to two.
The Israeli military confirmed that “an exchange of fire broke out during security activities by the IDF in the Gaza Strip region,” but would not elaborate further.
