Australians who are involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) are ‘pretty anxious’ about how they will get home from the tournament as the coronavirus surges in India, said the head of the Australian Cricketers’ Association on Wednesday.
Nearly 40 Australians remain involved in the IPL as players, coaches, officials and commentators, but their Prime Minister Scott Morrison said they would not be allowed to jump the queue whenever repatriation flights resume. The regular IPL season ends on 23 May 23, with playoffs to follow before the final on 30 May.
Australian Cricketers’ Association Chief Executive Todd Greenberg said to media that “as you’d imagine, they all are pretty anxious. They are probably one of the biggest hotspots that we’ve seen since coronavirus so we are just trying to make sure that they are all safe and secure and they can fulfill their commitments and we can get them home as soon as we can.”
The IPL schedule in 2021 is confirmed with tentative dates starting from 11 April 2021 with the finals set for 6 June 2021.
