Thousands of Bangladeshis protested in front of the Parliament Building, over the latest rape & violence towards women. Anika Khan reports.
The demonstration comes after a week of protest in every major city in Bangladesh, against the increasing number of rape cases, which the police are too slow to prosecute.
Amnesty International commented: “disturbing footage demonstrates the shocking violence that Bangladeshi women are routinely being subjected to”.

Even WhatsOn staff joined in solidarity from its Dhaka office. WhatsOn UK sent a message of support: “We salute you, you made us proud! Long live Women’s Revolution!”

Growing anger had been brewing amongst the General public, NGOs, Students, and Youth, against the government failure to tackle endemic corruption & lack of justice, which only favors the elite — who are subsidized and handed all contracts, licenses & even nomination of MP’s.

The courage & defiance shows how disenfranchised the citizens are from the far removed ministers & politicians. Criticism of any kind is neutralized by the control of the licensing mechanism through the Ministry of Information. University students and protesters chanted the slogan “Home Minster Must Go!” and “Defund the Police.
