Bill and Melinda Gates Warn Trump About Consequences of Cutting Foreign Aid

In the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation yearly public letter, which deals with issues concerning the developing world, the philanthropic couple urged Trump to be more respectful in his discourse concerning women and minorities and that it was important not to cut the foreign aid budget.
“I wish our president would treat people, and especially women, with more respect when he speaks and tweets,” said Melinda Gates. “Equality is an important national principle. The sanctity of each individual, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender, is part of our country’s spirit.”
In the letter the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation expressed their concern over president Donald Trump’s proposed foreign aid cuts in the annual budget. They believe that through foreign aid, the US is making a contribution to global security; that cutting the amount of aid could potentially cause an increase in preventable deaths in unstable and poorer countries.
This is the second year the Trump administration has proposed cuts to the foreign aid budget but, thankfully, Congress completely ignored the proposal last year and will hopefully do so again this year.
Bill Gates said, “To have Africa be stable, to have health systems that stop pandemics, and to reduce the chance of our army having to go fight somewhere and lose lives: these investments, even in that sort of ‘America first’ mindset, are still very, very wise.”
Melinda Gates also voiced her confusion at Trump’s foreign aid budget cuts. In the couple’s view, world peace will only be achieved when prosperity is worldwide. The cuts make no sense.
