Hulu has renewed the psychological horror series Castle Rock for a second season. The announcement comes just one week after the horror anthology series’ reached the halfway point of its first season, with it set to release its sixth episode tomorrow. Creators, showrunners, and executive producers, Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, are set to return for the second season.
While Hulu doesn’t release its official viewership numbers or “ratings,” the service has been open about the success of Castle Rock up until this point. According to the platform, Castle Rock became the most successful first-season original launch in both viewer consumption and its reach with its premiere back in July, and also has the highest view-through rates of any Hulu original throughout its first and second weeks.
The show takes place in the fictional Maine town of Castle Rock, which has served as the setting for a number of King’s novels and short stories. While the first season is focusing on Henry Deaver (André Holland), a death-row attorney who returns to the town, and stars the likes of Bill Skarsgard, Sissy Spacek and Terry O’Quinn, the second season will feature an entirely new storyline and possibly a new cast. It hasn’t been determined which, if any, cast members will return and sources said a whole new cast could be in the cards.
The first season of the series, which is currently on air, stars André Holland (Moonlight), Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness), Sissy Spacek (Carrie), Bill Skarsgård (IT), Jane Levy (Don’t Breathe) and Scott Glenn (Daredevil). New episodes are added to Hulu every Wednesday.
