The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to the couple’s third child on Monday, a son who becomes the fifth in line to the British throne.
The child was born at 11.01am at St. Mary’s Hospital and weighed 8lbs 7oz (3.8kg), Kensington Palace said. His mother, Kate, was said to be doing well and was due to leave hospital on Monday evening. His father, William, was present for the birth. The child’s name has not yet been announced.
The Duchess and Duke of Cambridge introduced the newborn to the world coming out from the hospital’s front door at about 5.53pm.
The young prince’s siblings arrived at the central London hospital to visit him shortly after his birth and the royal family was overjoyed to welcome its newest member.
“The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the palace said on Monday.
In a statement, Kensington Palace said: “Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank all staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have received.
“They would also like to thank everyone for their warm wishes.”
