Last night, the El Clasico match drew 1-1 where Real Madrid stunned Barcelona with an early goal in Copa del Rey semi-final in the Spanish capital.
The Brazilian struck after Lucas Vazquez had given Real Madrid the lead to earn a draw at the Nou Camp in the first of three Clasico’s to be played this month.
But Barcelona grew into the match as the first half wore on, eventually drawing level 10 minutes into the second period thanks to Malcom’s brilliant strike.
Neither Lionel Messi nor Gareth Bale were named in the starting line-ups for this first leg but their replacements filled the void as Malcom’s curling shot cancelled out an early opener from Lucas Vazquez.
Gareth Bale was also left on the bench as he continues his return from injury, with Real continuing with a front three of Vinicius Jr, Karim Benzema and Vazquez.
They might have had a second soon after, had Vinicius and Benzema not gotten in each other’s way on the break, but Malcom missed a great chance to equalise, firing straight at Keylor Navas when VAR would have overturned the linesman’s late offside flag.
Messi, who suffered a thigh injury at the weekend against Valencia, appeared for the final half hour but could not help champions Barcelona find a late winner.
“I think we both enjoyed spells on top,” Real’s stand-in goalkeeper Keylor Navas said after the match, “We came here wanting to win but after such a tight match 1-1 is a fair result, “We wanted to score … and hopefully we can make that away goal count when we play at home and reach the final”.
