Electric Car Charge Points are Blocking City Pavements

As the demand for electric vehicles across the world is increasing, it is very important to set up the charging points appropriately. Because of not having the proper planning to set up the charging points, it is noticed that in some areas of London chargers have been taking over pavements and blocking pedestrians.
While cities across the world like Paris are rushing to install charging points to encourage and keep up with the demand of electric vehicles, London is still unable to cope up with it.
In Ireland, There are now more than 1,200 public charge points are installed for “vehicle fast chargers” which they are trying to execute according to the plan.
Senior policy and political advisor, Rachel White from sustainable transport group Sustrans said, “With traffic and poor air quality affecting many people, we need fewer vehicles, not just cleaner vehicles”.
Explaining the problem, disability charity ‘Transport For All’ said it is creating problem for the people with disabilities to move around also blocking the way for those with buggies, prams and wheelchairs.
In Britain, the government is offering incentives for charging points and many local authorities are embracing the technology.
Unlike Barcelona, Norwich, London, In many US cities, many charging points are in car parks rather than pavements.
“Making it harder to walk and reducing access on our already crowded pavements doesn’t help more people to make every day journeys by foot”, said Rachel White.
