Georgia Senate elections: Everything you need to know

Over 80 million Americans voted Joe Biden as the new president of the United States. But the fate of Biden’s presidency hangs on line in a pair of Senate elections in Georgia.

We bring you the latest developments of the election:

  • The Control of the US Senate is on the line and it all comes down to the Georgie senate election that has been taking place since Tuesday.
  • If the Democrats win both the races, Biden will gain opportunities to build a progressive legacy and take the nation forward.
  • If they fail to lose even one of the races, it will mean that the government of the US will stay divided for the upcoming two years.
  • Raphael Warnock has won the Senate election last night, defeating the Republican senate candidate Kelly Loeffler.
  • Raphael has become the first Black Democratic Senator to be elected from the South and the state of Georgia.
  • In his victory speech, Raphael said that his 82- year-old mother “went to poll and picked her youngest son to be a United States senator”.
  • Jon Ossoff from the Democrat is also leading by 170000 votes on Wednesday morning. A victory for Ossoff will tie the US Senate election by 50-50.
  • This will mean that the control will effectively go to the vice-president Kamala Harris who will have to make a tie-breaking vote.
  • Joe Biden has congratulated the newly elected Senate and has urged to take ” urgent action on what comes next because the COVID-19 crisis hits red states and blue states alike.”

Meanwhile, thousands of Trump Supporters have gathered around in Washington in an attempt to make Congress reject Joe Biden as the new President of the United States.
