If you thought Spring was on its way and that we were over the worst of the Winter weather… think again!
The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for snow across most of the UK for this weekend. The warning comes into force this evening and will end on Sunday. The snow is bound to cause some disruption and the Met Office is urging people to get ready.
The reason for this bout of wintry weather is a front moving in on the UK from the east – Scandinavia, to be specific.
The worst of the weather will come on Sunday. The south-east is set to be the most affected area, while Cornwall and parts of the north-west are predicted to be safe from the front.
Not only will there be snow – temperatures are also set to drop after a few days of relatively mild weather. Temperatures will be around freezing but it will feel a lot colder due to raw winds – it will feel as cold as -10 C.
“Bitterly cold is the best way to describe it. Temperatures, on the face of it, will be probably just around freezing, but with wind, it’s going to feel well below,” said a meteorologist as the Met Office, Mark Wilson.
Another of the Met Office’s meteorologists, Martin Bowles, described this weekend’s weather as a “mini beast from the east” but that it won’t be as bad.
Don’t put away your hat and scarf just yet!
