Israel-U.N. Agreement on Resettling African Migrants is Suspended

Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suspended an agreement with the U.N. refugee agency to resettle African migrants in Western countries and to grant legal status to others, simply hours after announcing the deal.
Signing a deal of giving status to more than 34,000 undocumented Eritreans & Sudanese living in Israel and to resettle more than 16,000 in other countries, The Israeli government and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced it on national TV earlier on Monday.
By Monday night, Netanyahu had walked back the announcement, saying on Facebook that the deal would be put on hold until further review and he will discuss the deal with Israeli residents of south Tel Aviv on Tuesday.
“I am suspending the implementation of the agreement, and after meeting with the representatives I will re-examine the agreement again,” said Benjamin Netanyahu in his Facebook post.
The settlement had additionally incorporated give a boost to products and services for the African migrants who can be staying legally in Israel, stated UNHCR spokesperson William Spindler, “together with vocational coaching to assist them in finding employment past southern Tel Aviv”.
