Matt Murphy of The Wombats is Planning to Start a New Band

The Wombats singer and songwriter Matt Murphy is up to start a new band which he revealed in a show adding that he’s already penned 20 songs for the project.
The 33-year-old musician has disclose that he has already written 20 songs for his new project, which is as-yet untitled, and has hinted he might use some of the unpublished material from the ‘Tokyo’ hitmakers’ latest fourth studio album, ‘Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’.
“I am excited to see where it goes. It would be nice to say it when it’s all finalized and ready, but I’ve got 20 songs and it’s gonna be a new band,” the singer said.
“There were some songs left over from that we didn’t use and I was like”, he added “They’re really good, they should see the light of day somehow. But since then there’s been a load more and they’ve been parked, but we’ll see what happens”.
While news of Matthew’s new band may concern some fans about The Wombats’ future, he confirmed the ‘Let’s Dane to Joy Division’ hitmakers will be heading into the studio “early next year” to work on their fifth studio album.
The Wombats are currently in the country for their Splendour In The Grass appearance, including a couple of headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney, but it appears that the group are already looking ahead to their future plans.
“He’s young and intelligent and made fun of us and picked out various neuroses,” said the band’s new producer, Mark Crew.
