Paris Fashion Week 2018: The Highlights

Paris Fashion Week comes to a close today – so what happened during this glorious and glittering 7 day run of top trends and savvy style?
For starters Jarel Zhang put on a truly artistic showcase. The models strutted their stuff on the runway holding many an unusual prop – think lamps and compasses – in a theme that seemed to encompass mystery and an ‘unknown world’. The pieces presented were clearly influenced by technology and science; there were many 3D designs and large silhouettes on display.
John Galliano’s Fall range was full of creativity and vintage charm. There was a lot of layering and an array of textures, and Victorian detail played a significant role, with accessories such as elegant pearls and masculine oxfords. Gold metallics and boxy blazers added a contemporary feel, as well as the more glitzy item that is, of course, the sequinned bra!
Rouba G impressed the crowds with an exclusive showcase that shimmered with short cocktail dresses and floor & mid-length gowns. It was feminine and floaty with ruffles aplenty, flowing chiffon and girly pastels. The models walked in a circular motion around the room and guests got a real good look at the elegant styles before them.
Dumitrascu was a lot less conventional. This eccentric wardrobe took inspiration by Werner Herzog’s The Land of Silence and Darkness and, as a result, toyed with the concepts of vanity, control and isolation. In response to this there was a violent spectrum of colour with dark blues, blacks, pink and orange. The range brought forth sports jerseys, liquid leathers and oversized shapes.
Jean Paul Gaultier made all the right moves with his Spring Summer collection. The vibrant garments had an air of 60s and 80s about them, and there was a lot of monochrome going on with slick suits and two pieces. Perhaps the highlight, however, was the finish: Coco Rocha made an appearance in a dress which actually concealed her daughter inside! A charming dance routine ensued as the two delighted audiences with their cutesy matching outfits.
Paris Fashion Week has certainly been jam-packed with memorable fashionable feats, but then again, we wouldn’t expect any less!
