Get ready for girl power, because on Friday 9 March, Sally Marie’s Sweetshop Revolution will make a much welcomed return to DanceEast with BEAUTiFUL, a superb dance production exploring love and sexuality from women’s POV.
This event follows the success of the sellout performances I Loved You and I Loved You in 2016. The new dance show is a powerful examination of the female perspective in relation to sex and fantasies, and draws upon what is permissible within the complex web of social structures, expectations and social history.
This exciting production features 5 female dances and was developed to celebrate the solidarity of women whilst looking past the pressure to conform.
BEAUTiFUL will begin at 7.30pm on Friday and lead the audience on a journey of love, taking the attributes, behaviours and roles generally associated with girls and women to a more truthful and liberating place.
“More than ever I believe that it’s vital for women to communicate ‘the female gaze’ creatively,” Sally Marie commented. “The 5 extraordinary performers in this show plunge us into their private worlds, slicing through the tissued layers of elusive truths and false assumptions by which many of us live.
“We’re driven to look seriously and humorously – but always closely – at how women are objectified on stage and in the wider world. Our collective purpose? To generate outrageous pleasure, inspire insight and provoke debate.”
With the recent sex scandals shocking the world, and issues of female inequality and sexual harassment at the forefront of the public consciousness, now is the right time to address feminism in a positive and empowering way.
