Premier League Opening Weekend Summary

The Premier League has returned from its short break with wins for Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Everton. Charlie Griffiths Reports.

The weekend began with Arsenal beating freshly promoted Fulham 3-0 with goals from Lacazette, Aubameyang, and new signing Gabriel. 

Crystal Palace also recorded an opening day win over Southampton with a goal from Wilfred Zaha.

The game of the weekend was between Liverpool and Leeds where the reigning champions narrowly got past newly-promoted Leeds 4 goals to 3 with Mohammed Salah getting a hattrick after scoring two from the penalty spot. 

Newcastle beat West Ham 2-0 with goals from their new boys Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick.

On Sunday, Leicester beat rivals West Brom with two goals from Jamie Vardy and one from new signing Timothy Castagne.

Jose Mourinho made a losing start to the league for the first time ever when his Tottenham side lost 1-0 to Everton thanks to a header from Dominic Calvert Lewin.

On Monday, Wolves started the season with a big 2-0 win over last season’s surprise package Sheffield United.

Finally, the summer’s big spenders Chelsea began their campaign in victory down south by beating Brighton with goals from Reece James, Jorginho, and Kurt Zouma.
