Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman said women in Saudi Arabia do not need to wear traditional modesty robes as he tries to blur the strict laws established in Saudi.
In an Interview that aired on Sunday on CBS, he said “women and men are “absolutely” equal, Saudi women still have not received their full rights. There are rights stipulated in Islam that they still don’t have”.
The kingdom has seen an expansion in women’s rights including allowing women to attend mixed public sporting, restaurants, events and the right to drive cars.
The 32-year-old young prince is about to meet Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday will be their first face to face encounter as an heir to the throne. The prince mentioned, Saudis had “come a very long way and have a short way to go”.
Implementation of this decision will bring a significant change to the practices in the Muslim Kingdom. This is also a step towards modernization.
“Women should decide what type of clothing she should wear” said the young prince “as long as it is decent and respectful.”
