South Korean K-pop Singers to Perform in North Korea for First Time in 13 Years

K-pop singers will be sent to perform in North Korea for the first time in more than a decade.
With South Korea hosting North Korean acts during the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang recently, 160 South Korean artists are now set to cross the border.
The visit, which was agreed after talks between the countries in the border area of Panmunjom and will include a series of concerts, will last until 3 April, South Korea’s unification ministry said.
The upcoming, four-day lineup will feature K-pop sensation Red Velvet, a five-member all-girl group, and singers Baek Ji Young and Lee Sun Hee. Pop singer Cho Yong Pil will also perform. He was the last South Korean singer to grace Pyongyang’s stage in 2005.
“Our first task will be to instill the same awe in North Korean audiences as we do our South Korean ones, and make sure nothing is awkward,” Yoon Sang, a singer and record producer said who will direct the upcoming concerts.
