World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day is an annual event, held on the same date each year for 18 years run by the United Nations Refugee Agency, to state that the world supports and stands with refugees.
This event is about raising global awareness of global responsibility for refugees. It honors the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence.
Activities like protests against using former prisons to detain migrants and asylum seekers, Screenings films about the lives of asylum seekers living in a western country, organization like International Rescue Committee visits asylum seekers in detention to offer moral support happens on that day.
This event is celebrated in many countries across the world on that similar day. Some most widespread events are Africa Refugee Day and the Organization of African Unity (OAU).
The UN Refugee Agency’s (UNCHR) logo features olive branches that symbolize peace surrounding or protecting two hands facing each other, and in the middle a figure of a person protected by these hands.
In September 2016, global leaders agreed to work towards a Global Compact for refugees in 2018 where all parts of society stand together #WithRefugees and do their fair share instead of leaving individual states to bear the burden of mass forced displacement.
In this event, Refugees are provided variety of lifesaving assistance, safety and protection by the government agencies and organizations. They are provided tents, shelter, living materials supplies and served with the life-saving services.
